Rhetorical Analysis
My purpose for this analysis is to look at a website
and thoroughly go through what it consists of and analyze how effective it
is. I want to look at the pictures,
videos, articles, and format to find out if they are doing what they want to do
and if they are convincing people to interact with their message. The audience
for my analysis is mostly women, because this website looks at the effect that
social media has on women in society and that women can be empowered. The
context is going to be an analysis of the website and what it includes. I plan
on using not only written analysis but pictures and maybe videos that emphasize
the message of this website. I want to
arrange it in a way where the pictures emphasize what is being written and vice
versa. I want the reader to look at everything and take it in, and really think
about the website and its message to women and girls.
Photo Essay
My audience includes
everyone in this class and the teacher. I believe this is a perfect audience because
it reaches men, women, and two generations.
The context of my presentation in class will be my photo essay on my
computer, where everyone in the class will walk by and study my work. I think that my essay will be well evaluated,
I think my topic is relatable and interesting and I think that I will present
it in a way that is both inviting and educational. The argument in my essay that is developed is
that gender roles shouldn’t define us and that we can break the ones that are
present in our lives. I want my audience to think about the gender roles that
they feel they have to follow, and also the gender roles that they expect
others to follow. I want the audience to feel like I’m not trying to
drastically change their ways, but make them really think about how they live
their lives. I need to gather more
pictures with more variety. I have an idea of what I want to do with them but
am not completely sure. I need to make sure I present them in a way that is inviting
and not too convincing, just enough to make the reader take time to think about
what the pictures are trying to say. In
the end, I want to show the reader that anyone can do anything regardless of
gender stereotypes. People shouldn’t be limited to what they do just because of
the anatomy of their body.
Research Paper
There are many varieties of gender
roles that exist today. Most can be seen universally throughout the world, and
some are unique to their country or culture. In my research paper, I want to
look further into the gender roles we see everyday. I not only want to know
where they began, I want to know why we have them. The main question I want to
ask is “are gender roles or stereotypes something we’re born with or do we
learn them throughout our life?” I think this topic sort of piggybacks on the
idea of nature vs nurture. I want to take a deeper look at the impact that
genetics and experience have on the way we perceive different genders.
My
strategies for this include doing intensive research on not only genetics, but
gender characteristics in general. I
want to look at what specifies a man as a man and a woman as a woman other than
the physical characteristics. I also intend on researching the history of
gender roles or stereotypes and looking into different ones. I plan to not only
write a paper, but include pictures and possibly videos. The paper will
describe my research, the photos will emphasize it, and the videos will
interact with the reader. I know how
I’ll include the photos in with the paper but I have to think about how I would
incorporate some videos in an orderly way.
As for my
argument, I want to say that both genetics and the way we were raised have an
impact on the gender roles and stereotypes we live every day. I want to take a
closer look at how media, society, and history also impact these. I also hope to come to the conclusion that no
matter how we were raised, we can break these stereotypes and gender roles in
our own lives. I think that people will relate to this topic, as they see and
feel gender roles and stereotypes everyday of their lives.
I am in no
way an expert on this topic, it just interests me a lot. I know that everyone
follows and has certain gender roles and in some cases, they can change their
opinion on someone based on these ideas. I also know that sometimes people
can’t help how they see another gender, because it was the way they were raised
and it is hard to change what you already know.
Research wise I plan on using scholarly websites such as huffingtonpost
and other various sources I found while looking up my topic. I haven’t found any books yet but I plan on
looking in the library for some because I know there will be countless books on
my topic.
All in all,
I hope to learn more about gender roles, why they exist, and how they come to
be in our lives. I am curious to find
out more about them and see why some people think they are necessary in society
in order to keep structure and control.
As for my position, I believe that genetics have an impact on how we see
other genders but I believe that our upbringing and environment is what truly
affects our sights on gender roles and stereotypes. I also believe that culture and media have a
huge role on how we see other genders, so that would be a plus on the side of
environment. I reached this position
based on the people I know. Once I meet some of my friends parents, I can see
where they get a lot of their traits and thoughts on others. My position definitely reflects my own
personal experience with myself and with my acquaintances. I think my position also loosely represents
what I have seen on tv and what I have read.
